The Story Behind Tofu

It all started with a phone
‍Back in 2018, we just wanted to build an invoicing app that didn’t make you suffer through paperwork hell. We already knew how to make mobile products — for ourselves, for friends — and we knew how frustrating clunky tools could be.

‍Who stuck with us
‍Our first users came from all walks of life. But the ones who kept coming back were the field pros: tradespeople, service teams, folks who spend their days on the move, not behind a desk. That surprised us. An app “for everyone” turned out to be essential for those always out in the field.

‍Doubling down on mobile
‍That’s when we decided: let’s make things truly easy for people on the go. Big buttons, everything at your fingertips, no confusing menus, no “take a training course first.” You open it — it just works.

‍Tofu becomes its own thing
‍In 2022, our invoice maker grew up and became its own company.We brought in new people, built a strong team. Now there are 25 of us — still fans of quick calls and straight talk. We move fast, aren’t afraid to roll back a feature if it doesn’t work. There’s even a running joke: “We ship it — then unship it.”

‍The next step
‍By 2025, we’d grown into a platform for small field service businesses. Now, with Tofu, you can not only send invoices, but also manage your clients and payments — all just as simple, and always from your phone.

‍Why we do it
‍We want small businesses to grow faster, spend less time on pointless admin, and more on what actually matters. Everything else? That’s what Tofu is for.
